A/C School's Community Lunch Celebrates Local Produce

A/C School, in collaboration with 'Herculean - The House of Resilience', recently hosted a community lunch event. The gathering, held on October 1, celebrated local produce and brought together community members and staff. This initiative is part of the school's ongoing Farm to School program, which promotes locally grown foods and gardening education.

The A/C School Lunch with the Community event served a menu featuring locally grown produce. Students and staff prepared mashed potatoes, salad vegetables, and pumpkin cake dessert, all sourced from local farms. The school's commercial-grade greenhouse plays a significant role in this, with students growing their own produce under the guidance of new agriculture teacher Amada Schmidt.

The community lunch events are held monthly on the first Wednesday, open to all. Chef Aubrey Holland, who uses the school's garden-grown vegetables in meals, also helps maintain the garden. The idea for these regular community meals was initiated by staff members who established various production areas, with Mogens Thyge Jensen supporting the project since 1992. Wyoming Farm to School Day, celebrated annually on October 8, aligns with these efforts to promote locally grown foods in schools.

A/C School's commitment to local produce and community involvement is evident in its Farm to School program and monthly community lunches. By growing and serving local food, the school not only promotes healthy eating but also fosters a sense of community and connection to the land.
