Almaty Boosts Preschool Capacity and Quality with New Spots and Safety Measures
Almaty's preschool education is receiving significant attention, with a focus on increasing capacity and improving quality. The coverage rate for children aged 3 to 6 is around 90%, but efforts are underway to further expand access.
Currently, there are 824 preschool organizations in Almaty, including 189 state-run ones, catering to over 65,000 children. Plans are in place to open another 2,200 spots by returning or renovating existing buildings. Additionally, mechanisms for partial compensation of parental fees in private kindergartens are being explored, which could create an additional 5,000 spots.
To ensure high-quality care, the responsibility of directors is being strengthened, with a focus on maintaining financial discipline. The COVID-19 pandemic has also led to a heightened focus on sanitary and epidemiological safety norms. Four state-run kindergartens with 640 spots are being constructed to further reduce the shortage of places. Improving meal quality and enhancing safety measures, including a wide-scale video surveillance system, were also discussed.
A recent meeting addressed issues related to kindergarten places, meal quality, medical monitoring, education quality, administrative management, and anti-corruption measures. These efforts aim to provide more children with access to quality preschool education and ensure the well-being of all involved.
