Astana's Only Transport College Thrives, Fueling Auto Industry

The Professional Technical College of the Akimat of Astana, the sole institution in Astana specializing in transport repair and maintenance, is thriving. With about 900 students and 11 specialties, it's making a significant impact on the city's automotive industry.

The college's unique dual system trains students with 60% practical experience in enterprises and 40% theory in the classroom. This hands-on approach has proven successful, with around 70% of students enrolled in dual education. However, legal formalization of contracts remains a challenge.

The college's popularity is evident in the auto electrician program. Last year, 75 students enrolled, far exceeding the planned 25. This high demand is fueled by the Nur district's forty large enterprise car rentals specializing in car repair and maintenance, which belong to the automotive, logistics, and mechanical engineering industries.

The college's three-year training program begins with general education in the first year, followed by specialized training in the second and third years, with students spending 60% of their time in enterprises. This structure allows students to gain real-world experience and secure employment even before graduation. The annual meeting with employers further facilitates this process, with many students offered jobs from the second year onwards.

The Professional Technical College of the Akimat of Astana plays a crucial role in supplying skilled workers to the city's automotive industry. With a robust dual education system and strong ties to local enterprise car rentals, the college graduates about 100-150 specialists annually, many of whom find employment in prestigious auto centers such as Toyota, BMW, Jaguar, and Subaru.
