BKTL Wins Top Renovation Award in North Rhine-Westphalia
The vocational college Tecklenburger Land (BKTL) in Ibbenbüren has been recognised for its outstanding renovation project. The 'Award for exemplary buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia 2025' will be presented to BKTL on 9th February 2026 in Düsseldorf. The award honours the sustainable renewal of the college's structurally and conceptually outdated existing buildings from 1958 and 1976.
The renovation project was a collaborative effort between the Building Authority of County Steinfurt and the architectural firm farwickgrote partner Architekten BDA Stadtplaner PartmbB, Ahaus. The project took four years and transformed the old school buildings into a modern and pedagogically valuable learning environment. The renovation included the creation of functional common rooms and bright, open learning islands. The jury praised the project for preserving the original buildings while renewing them sustainably.
The 'Award for exemplary buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia' is awarded every five years by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipalities, Construction and Digitalisation in cooperation with the Chamber of Architects North Rhine-Westphalia. This year, a total of 25 new or renovated buildings throughout North Rhine-Westphalia are being awarded, including BKTL.
Carsten Rehers, Building Director of County Steinfurt, expressed satisfaction about the regional recognition for the BKTL renovation project. The award ceremony will take place on 9th February 2026 in Düsseldorf, where BKTL will receive the prestigious honour for its outstanding renovation work.
