The Ruhr area, known for its vibrant academic community, is now home to two universities that have been recognised as Fairtrade Universities. One of these institutions is the Hochschule Bochum, a university situated in the heart of the Ruhr area.

Hochschule Bochum has recently been awarded the prestigious title of "Fairtrade University" for its commitment to fair trade practices. The university offers a variety of fair trade products in its cafeterias and events, aligning with the global movement's aim to make world trade fairer.

The journey towards this recognition took two years, with the application process meticulously reviewed by Fairtrade Germany. The initiative for Fairtrade at Hochschule Bochum came from the student body, reflecting a strong student commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.

Manfred Holz, honorary ambassador of Fairtrade Germany e.V., presented the Fairtrade certificate to Hochschule Bochum, marking a significant milestone in the university's commitment to fair trade.

In addition to Hochschule Bochum, the University of Witten/Herdecke is also a Fairtrade University. Another Fairtrade University in the Ruhr area is Hochschule Niederrhein, with campuses in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach.

While there is no clear evidence to suggest that Hochschule Rhein-Waal is a Fairtrade University or located in the Ruhr area, the current information points to Hochschule Bochum, the University of Witten/Herdecke, and Hochschule Niederrhein as the recognised Fairtrade Universities within the Ruhr area.

The Ruhr area's universities, including Hochschule Bochum, support the goals of the Fairtrade movement, contributing to a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

At Hochschule Bochum, students and staff can engage in ethical and sustainable practices, as the university offers various fair trade products in its cafeterias and events to support the Fairtrade movement. Concurrently, individuals seeking self-development and a holistic approach to learning may find education-and-self-development resources that promote the importance of fair trade within the home-and-garden, lifestyle, and academic realms.
