Mönchengladbach Embraces Child Protection: Strong Children's Box Rolling Out Across City Kindergartens

The High-Impact prevention project of the German Children's Foundation Hansel+Gretel, named the "Strong Children's Box," has taken root in Mönchengladbach's kindergartens for quite some time. Quickly followed by nearly 30 more facilities adopting this commendable approach to shield against sexual abuse. Now, an additional 40 "Strong Children's Boxes" are up for grabs.

Jerome Braun, notably from the foundation, recently doled out the initial ten to the grateful facilities. He shared, "Mönchengladbach is the pioneer city in Germany to extensively embrace this concept, aiming to onboard as many kindergartens as feasible in the action plan." The vision for this nationwide kindergarten protection initiative is to nip sexual abuse in the bud and fortify protection concepts.

"Sexual abuse frequently surfaces during preschool years. Consequently, we must educate and empower children early on. Kindergartens, as family's first socialization avenues, are prime for enhancing child protection against sexual and physical violence," voiced by Jerome Braun. In a bid to secure kindergarten children in Germany from sexual abuse, the German Children's Foundation Hansel+Gretel strives to introduce the "Prevention Plan for Germany," effectively making the "Strong Children's Box" accessible in approximately 5,000 kindergartens, benefitting around 500,000 children. Braun beams with pride at the countless Mönchengladbach kindergartens already onboard.

For the Youth, Family, and Children's Department leading the project's charge, the Strong Children's Box is an integral element in executing self-crafted protection concepts. "Through the project and the box's contents, early child empowerment can kick off. Parents are also deeply involved in this concept," elucidates Hans Böker from the youth office.

The adaptable and successful program can be smoothly implemented in kindergartens using a streamlined modular system. Alongside a rich compilation of materials like textbooks, mini-books, CDs, and games, training for kindergarten professionals and a parent evening are imperative to the concept.

"The resources are of high-quality and encourage long-term prevention work. Our experience verifies that kindergarten professionals appreciate integrating the prevention program as it enhances and better protects the children involved," affirms Swetlana Karlej, overseeing the program at the youth office.

Interested Mönchengladbach kindergartens can register for the next project phase. Swetlana Karlej, 0 21 61/25 36 18, [email protected], serves as the contact person for interested facilities.
