Building of the New East Primary Schoolhouse
New Three-Winged Elementary School Ost in Landshut Under Construction
A new three-winged elementary school, named Ost, is being built in Landshut at "Am Schallermoos". The groundbreaking ceremony for the school took place on July 10th, 2023, and the construction is set to begin in October.
The school, which will operate under the concept of cooperative all-day care, known as the learning house, is estimated to cost 36 million euros, with the city's own contribution being around 24 million euros. The school will be able to accommodate around 300 elementary school children, starting from the school year 2025/26.
The architect responsible for the new construction is Victoria von Gaudecker Architektur. The school building will be extensively greened, and a large photovoltaic system will be installed on the gymnasium. The roof will also be greened.
The school's design consists of a three-part building with two floors, housing all functions under one roof. It will include a cafeteria, a simple gymnasium, and an integrated gymnasium. The sports hall adjacent to the school building is accessible via a separate entrance and is used for club sports in the evenings, as well as for school sports and afternoon leisure activities during school hours.
The outdoor areas of the school include a playground, an outdoor classroom/reading garden, a small school garden, an all-weather pitch, a running track with long jump facilities, and a grass sports field. The loggias on the upper floors serve as escape routes and add depth to the facades with filigree wooden slats, as part of the fire protection concept.
The school will be heated by remote heat, and a large photovoltaic system will be installed on the gymnasium. Access to the school and teacher parking is via "Am Schallermoos". A holding lane is offered for pick-up and drop-off traffic in front of the music school/corner of Niedermayer Street to calm traffic.
The construction of the school and the sports hall will be a mixed method, with solid construction in the basement and wooden construction in the upper floor. The shell construction of the school is scheduled to begin in October. The school's innovative design and commitment to sustainability make it an exciting addition to the Landshut educational landscape.
