Career Guidance - Assistance for Young Individuals Navigating their Professions
In the city and region of Kassel, the demand for mentors is high, and the Employment Promotion Association (AGiL) is actively seeking life and work-experienced volunteers for their Career Mentoring Project. This project, funded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration, aims to support young people, particularly those with migration or refugee backgrounds, in finding apprenticeships.
The Career Mentoring Project offers more than just individual support and mentoring. Mentors work in cooperation with schools to prepare young people for job interviews, helping them to write applications, find internship and apprenticeship placements, and prepare for the challenges of the working world.
Currently, around 50 volunteers are helping with career orientation within the project. These mentors are integrated into a well-organized and professionally supervised network, and they are encouraged to attend regular meetings for experience exchange, social events, and training to support their work. Mentors also receive compensation for their expenses.
Mentorships often continue even after an apprenticeship has begun, providing ongoing support and guidance to young people as they navigate their careers.
