UCLA's Music of China Ensemble Celebrates 60 Years and Chinese New Year

The UCLA Music of China Ensemble, also known as the Chinese Music Ensemble, is marking two significant milestones this year – the Chinese New Year and its 60th anniversary. Established by the late Professor Tsun-Yuen Lui, the ensemble has been a vital part of UCLA's academic and cultural landscape for six decades.

Currently directed by Professor Chi Li, the ensemble provides over 100 UCLA students from various departments with the opportunity to study and perform more than thirty traditional Chinese instruments. This rich musical heritage is celebrated not only within UCLA but also in the greater Los Angeles community.

The ensemble's activities are crucial for the future, and gifts to the Music of China Ensemble Support Fund play a pivotal role in ensuring that UCLA students can continue to study and perform Chinese musical arts. These gifts support performances and the maintenance and repair of the Chinese instrument collection, helping to preserve this valuable cultural asset.

The Year of the Dog is being celebrated by the Music of China Ensemble for Chinese New Year. As part of their celebrations, the ensemble promotes Chinese arts and culture, offering a catalog of traditional Chinese instruments for students to learn and perform on. The ensemble's activities are vital in keeping these ancient arts alive and thriving.

The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music is joining in the celebrations, recognising the importance of the Music of China Ensemble in promoting cultural diversity and understanding. As the ensemble continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to its mission of both performance and education about traditional Chinese music.

For those who wish to support the Music of China Ensemble, gifts to the Music of China Ensemble Support Fund are warmly welcomed. Your gift will help to ensure that the ensemble can continue to provide students with the opportunity to study and perform Chinese musical arts, and to celebrate Chinese culture within UCLA and the greater Los Angeles community.
