Chipotle aims to accompany Gen Z in their academic journey, focusing on higher education.
Chipotle Launches Exclusive Loyalty Program for College Students
Chipotle has introduced a new loyalty program specifically for college students, called Chipotle U Rewards. The program, which launched on August 20, 2025, aims to enhance the college experience for Gen Z students by offering exclusive rewards and discounts[1][2][4][5].
Key features of Chipotle U Rewards include:
- 1,000 bonus points upon enrollment.
- 20% more points earned on every purchase compared to the regular rewards program.
- Members earn 12 points per each dollar spent at Chipotle.
- Enrollment requires students to validate their college enrollment via ID.me or Chipotle’s website.
The program is designed to help students earn free Chipotle food faster by accumulating points through their purchases[1][2][3][4][5]. Chipotle's president and chief strategy and technology officer, Curt Garner, stated that the program creates a personalized digital experience for students who frequently visit Chipotle[6].
In addition to the rewards program, Chipotle partnered with Urban Outfitters to launch a limited-edition Urban Outfitters x Chipotle “A Little Extra” Dorm Collection. This collection includes dorm room decor such as bean bag chairs, throw blankets, desk lights, and special Chipotle-inspired items, available at select Urban Outfitters stores and online starting August 20, 2025[1][2][3][4].
Chipotle U Rewards also celebrates students at various milestones such as finals, game days, and graduation with special offers and surprise giveaways[1][2][3][4]. This program uniquely targets the college demographic by acknowledging key academic and social events, aiming to build stronger engagement with Gen Z customers. Students can sign up for Chipotle U Rewards through Chipotle’s website, validating their enrollment to get started[2][5].
It's worth noting that Chipotle's same-store sales have turned negative in the first half of the year[7]. However, the launch of Chipotle U Rewards is timed for the back-to-school season, which is a popular time for college students to frequent Chipotle, with approximately 250 locations within two miles of a college campus[8].
The program is intended to offer value to cash-strapped college students without discounting the brand more broadly[9]. Scott Boatwright, Chipotle's chief restaurant officer, has pledged to strengthen the brand's value message[10]. A Chipotle burrito throw blanket is available for $99, and other items from the Urban Outfitters x Chipotle “A Little Extra” Dorm Collection are also available.
