Commission takes part in drafting directive for accident safety safeguards for young individuals.

In the heart of Neuwied, a new initiative has taken root, aiming to make a significant impact on the lives of young people in the community. The Haus des Jugendrechts, which opened its doors in April 2023, stands as a beacon of shared responsibility, offering quick and clear assistance to those who need it most.

Located under one roof, the Haus des Jugendrechts is a collaborative effort between the Neuwied police directorate, the Koblenz public prosecutor's office, and the Neuwied youth welfare office. The initiative brings together Matthias Päsel (head of the Neuwied police inspection), Harald Schwer (deputy head of the youth welfare office's social services department), and Martina Staudt (social services/Haus des Jugendrechts) to work towards a common goal: to reach young people early and show them perspectives, whether in school or on the road.

The strategic direction of the Haus des Jugendrechts is focused on prevention, with the belief that problems should not be allowed to grow big in the first place. Two key challenges have been identified: school refusal and safety issues in road traffic, particularly regarding e-scooters. The aim is to strengthen development opportunities, prevent repeat offenses, and enable a life free from crime.

The Haus des Jugendrechts also seeks to address young people after their first offenses, offering concrete support in difficult life situations. The initiative emphasises the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation, coordinated efforts, and case management to enhance juvenile justice outcomes in Neuwied.

The discussions surrounding the Haus des Jugendrechts have been led by Mayor Peter Jung and Thorsten Runkel, head of the Neuwied police directorate. The board of the "Haus des Jugendrechts" association has also been actively involved, focusing on reaching young people before issues arise. The common goal is to provide effective prevention, ensuring that young people in Neuwied are given the best possible start in life.

In summary, the Haus des Jugendrechts in Neuwied is more than just a building; it is a symbol of hope and support for young people in the community. By working together, the initiative aims to improve youth support and legal processes, ultimately creating a safer and more supportive environment for young people in Neuwied.
