In the heart of Germany, the Rhön-Ulstertal-Regular School Geisa recently hosted a career fair for ninth graders. The event, which took place in the school's multi-purpose building, aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of various vocational fields.
The training place exchange, a fixed part of the school calendar, welcomed around 30 companies from diverse sectors. These ranged from craft businesses and social institutions to schools and medium-sized companies from Fulda, Bad Salzungen, and Bad Hersfeld. The participating companies prepared interactive stations to make the training professions tangible and encourage conversations.
One such station allowed students to operate an excavator, while another offered the opportunity to use VR glasses. There was also a soapbox observation station and a metal workpiece manufacturing station. These hands-on experiences made the world of work come alive for the students.
Christina Arnold, a career advisor from the Federal Employment Agency, gave an overview of the Thuringian school and training system at the event. Stephanie Mohr, who organised the event along with Jens Jahn, explained the focus of career orientation.
Access to the event was staggered in groups. Eighth graders started at 6 pm, followed by ninth and tenth graders at 7 pm. The event's motto was "We bring together what belongs together."
The Rhön-Ulstertal-Regular School Geisa expressed its gratitude to all participating companies for their great commitment and willingness to show young people the diversity of the world of work in an interactive way. The school regularly organises such events to provide career orientation opportunities to its students.
The event was a resounding success, connecting students with regional training companies and offering them a glimpse into the various career paths available to them. The school looks forward to hosting similar events in the future.
