Denton's 31 Days of Halloween Returns with New Attractions and Monster Onion
Denton is gearing up for another spooktacular Halloween season, with a month-long celebration kicking off on Wednesday. This year's 31 Days of Denton Halloween promises new attractions, returning favourites, and a monster-sized purple creature named Onion taking centre stage.
The city has invested around $250,000 from hotel occupancy tax revenue into this year's and next year's news events. One of the standout new attractions is the Garden of Villains, featuring mannequins dressed as classic Scooby-Doo villains, located between City Hall and the Denton Civic Center.
Last year's Halloween attractions drew an impressive 660,000 visitors from across the US and international destinations. This year, visitors can expect a 5,000-square-foot maze in front of the Denton Civic Center, designed as a mad scientist's lab and free for ages 8 and up. Local artist Dan Black has contributed to the maze's creation, with local businesses and artists collaborating on other attractions.
Returning favourites include the Phone Booths, now with new stories, found at Denton County Brewing Co., Plot Twist, and Hemlock Fox. The Scary Chairy Orchard, a homage to the Chairy Orchard, also returns with up to 175 chairs and a pop-up cemetery with punny headstones.
The purple monster Onion has appeared on a new sign at 108 N. Locust St. and on a mural at vintage store Faded Blue, serving as a welcoming symbol for this year's Halloween celebration. With a mix of new and returning attractions, the 31 Days of Denton Halloween is set to once again establish Denton as the Halloween Capital of Texas.
