Discussion on Body and Diversity Led by Hiten Noonwal
In a unique and enlightening session, the L4 Fashion Design students at an unnamed institution had an interaction with Hiten Noonwal, a renowned gender fluid artist, model, designer, and performer.
Hiten Noonwal, who holds a Master's degree in Apparel/Fashion Design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), shared insights on the importance of body diversity and inclusivity in the fashion industry. The interaction was part of a brief titled 'Body and Diversity'.
Throughout the session, the students were introduced to the diversity of bodies, including body types, shapes, sizes, and gender studies. Hiten encouraged the students to consider whether masculinity and femininity are social constructs, aiming to build sensitivity towards body diversity.
Clothing and fashion are essential mediums for people to embrace and express their identity and individuality. Hiten's work in the industry reflects this belief, as he is not only a Fashion & Costume Designer and Artist but also an LGBTQ+ Influencer.
In addition to his work as a Fashion Designer at Ritu Kumar and Assistant Designer at Raw Mango, Hiten is currently the Creative Head at NUN Garage Collection. His role at NUN Garage Collection was not mentioned in the earlier facts, but it is clear that his influence extends beyond his artistic work.
After their interaction with Hiten, the students had the opportunity to express their creativity by depicting their perception of him. This exercise allowed them to apply the lessons they learned during the session in a practical way.
Through their interaction with Hiten, the students better understood normative body ideals and gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of body diversity and inclusivity in the fashion industry. Hiten's work as an LGBTQ+ Influencer, combined with his extensive industry experience, made him the perfect choice to lead this enlightening session.
