Dismissive Redesign Hails from Düsseldorf

The city of Düsseldorf is set to host an exciting new design exhibition, titled "New Design from Düsseldorf," at the NRW-Forum, Ehrenhof 2. The exhibition, which runs from June 6th to 10th, showcases award-winning final projects from the Peter Behrens School of Art.

This exhibition promises to present a vibrant display of contemporary design, art, and applied arts, with a focus on innovative and experimental works by recent graduates. Known for its emphasis on interdisciplinary design education, the Peter Behrens School of Arts is expected to showcase a diverse range of projects, including graphics, product design, and new media.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is Katharina Senff's photo wall, titled "I don't know you, but I'll still make you up." This thought-provoking installation comments on prevailing beauty ideals and one's own body image. In one of her photos, a dismembered Barbie doll disappears into a wobbly Peter Guglhupf on a large wallpaper, while another image shows Senff herself half-naked on a pillar, showcasing love handles and injuries.

Another noteworthy exhibit is Laura Sistig's comic, titled "Hate Behind Glass." This comic deals with digital violence against women and secret dealings on the internet. Interestingly, enlarged example pages from the comic serve as wallpaper, creating a striking visual display. From afar, the comic appears light and cute, but upon closer inspection, it reveals its shocking and thought-provoking content.

The exhibition will have daily opening hours from 11 am to 6 pm, with an opening event on June 6th from 6 pm. For those interested in specific themes and works presented by the graduates, it is recommended to check the NRW-Forum’s official announcements or the Peter Behrens School of Arts’ event updates directly.

In addition to these exhibits, Raphael Mauckner's sculptural room dividers, resembling a pair of pants and a half T-shirt, are also worth a visit. These unique creations, made from felt and wood, add a touch of whimsy to the exhibition.

With its focus on cutting-edge design, thought-provoking art, and innovative applications, the "New Design from Düsseldorf" exhibition promises to be an exciting event for design enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
