In a significant recognition of her outstanding contributions to higher education, Professor Maria Vogiatzaki, Head of the School of Architecture and Planning at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), has been awarded the prestigious National Teaching Fellowship from AdvanceHE in 2025.

The National Teaching Fellowship is a highly regarded accolade that recognizes, rewards, and celebrates individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession. This award is widely recognized within the UK and internationally as a mark of quality.

Professor Vogiatzaki, who is also a professor of architecture at ARU, has demonstrated a remarkable innovation, dedication, and impact on student learning throughout her career. Her research interests include architectural materialisms, speculative design, and the interplay between design, culture, technology, and nature, reflecting her commitment to innovative architectural pedagogy and interdisciplinary approaches to architecture.

Before joining ARU in September 2018, Professor Vogiatzaki taught in several locations, including the southwest of England, Denmark, and Greece. Her work emphasizes collaborative educational transformation, connecting students and colleagues in rethinking architectural education.

The 2025 awards also recognised 61 new National Teaching Fellows and 17 winning teams of the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE). These recipients have an unwavering commitment to teaching excellence and demonstrate remarkable innovation in their approach to education. The achievements of the recipients benefit their own institutions and inspire excellence across the entire sector.
