Dive Program for Increased Diversity at Scripps
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) has announced the launch of a new program aimed at increasing diversity in the field of scientific diving. Known as the DIVERsity program, it is supported by Scripps' dive staff, development team, key faculty, and student leads.
The exact opening date for the 2025-2026 application cycle of the DIVERsity program is yet to be determined. Interested applicants, who can be current or incoming UCSD students with any level of swim and dive proficiency, are encouraged to review all the information and contact scubadiversity@our website with any questions.
The DIVERsity program falls under the Scripps Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and includes the SCUBA DIVERsity Fellowship Program. Both programs do not consider race, colour, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories during the application and selection process.
The DIVERsity program is part of SIO's ongoing commitment to promoting equal access for students interested in scientific diving. SIO is renowned for its leadership in the scientific diving community, with the Scripps Diving Program, established in 1951, being one of the oldest and most respected scientific diving programs in the world.
For those seeking SCUBA-based marine science opportunities, students should also consider the Scripps Diving Program for certification, the Jane Teranes SURF Program for undergraduate research, and relevant graduate programs for advanced fieldwork. For the most accurate and current information, contacting SIO directly is recommended.
