A 6.1 magnitude earthquake jolted the town of Sındırgı in western Turkey on August 10, 2025, causing significant structural damage and resulting in at least one confirmed death and multiple injuries. The earthquake, which struck at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, was felt as far as Istanbul, approximately 340 kilometers away, where residents reported noticeable shaking but no major damage.
The impact in Sındırgı was more severe, with at least 16 buildings collapsing, including two mosque minarets. Unfortunately, one of the rescued individuals, an 81-year-old senior citizen, later passed away. At least 29 others were injured in the quake.

Authorities have advised caution around unstable structures due to ongoing aftershocks, the strongest being a magnitude 4.6. No further fatalities have been confirmed yet, but the risk of additional collapses complicates rescue efforts.
