Education Minister of Yakutia, Nyrguna Sokolova, discusses readiness for the upcoming school year.

In Yakutia, the Sakha Republic, two new subjects have been introduced into the curriculum for the 2021-2022 academic year: Fundamentals of Safety and Defense of the Motherland, and Labor. These additions are part of a broader focus on preparing students to understand and respect their homeland, as emphasized by Aisen Nikolaev, a prominent individual in the region.

Nikolaev, who writes in his Telegram channel, believes that the values instilled in students today will shape the future. He has also stressed the importance of updating school curricula according to modern standards.

The Minister of Education of Yakutia, Nürguna Sokolova, noted that almost all ninth and eleventh graders received their diplomas on time last academic year. As the teaching staff is being assembled for the new academic year, educational programs are also being prepared.

Social Studies will only be taught in higher grades, making way for an in-depth history course. The previous Technology course has been replaced by Labor. A course on the history of Yakutia has already been developed and is ready for implementation.

History teaching in Yakutia will gradually change, with the addition of a regional component - the history of Yakutia. This shift is part of a broader trend in the region, where the curriculum often reflects the indigenous Sakha people, regional history, and geography.

More students in Yakutia are choosing math, physics, chemistry, biology, and informatics as their major subjects. Repairs in schools across all villages, towns, and cities of the Yakutia republic are nearing completion. All educational institutions in Yakutia must be ready to receive students by August 25.

Last Friday, Aisen Nikolaev met with Nürguna Sokolova, the Minister of Education of Yakutia, to discuss the main topic of their meeting: the preparation of schools for the new academic year. The number of students failing to meet the minimum EGE thresholds has decreased in Yakutia, while the number of students scoring above 80 on EGE has increased.

For precise and official updates on Yakutia's school curricula in 2021-2022, including any changes in history and social studies subjects, it would be necessary to consult the Ministry of Education of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) official website or publications, regional educational authorities’ announcements or curriculum guidance documents, or official Russian Ministry of Education releases on regional curriculum adaptations. At this time, no publicly accessible summaries or documents from these sources have appeared.

  1. Aisen Nikolaev, in his Telegram channel, has emphasized the importance of updating school curricula, believing that the values instilled in students today will shape the future and could influence areas beyond education-and-self-development, such as politics and general-news.
  2. The preparation of schools for the new academic year in Yakutia includes not only the assembly of the teaching staff and the planning of educational programs, but also a shift in the history teaching, with an increased focus on the regional history of Yakutia, reflecting the indigenous Sakha people and general-news related to the region.
