Linda McMahon: From WWE to Education Secretary

Linda McMahon, a name synonymous with the world of professional wrestling, has had an unexpected journey into the realm of education policy.

McMahon, who co-founded and led the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), graduated from college in just three years. Her tenure at WWE saw her rise to become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. However, her ambitions extended beyond the wrestling ring.

In 2009, McMahon was appointed to the Connecticut board of education. This marked the beginning of her transition into the world of education. In 2010, she resigned from the board to run for the U.S. Senate, making two unsuccessful bids to represent Connecticut.

McMahon's political career took a new turn when she was nominated to be the head of the Small Business Administration during President Donald Trump's first term. Serving from 2017 to 2019, her tenure was marked by efforts to support small businesses across the nation.

In 2024, McMahon was nominated again, this time for the position of Education Secretary. After a confirmation hearing, she pledged to maintain school funding while working to end the U.S. Department of Education. Her nomination was confirmed by the Senate on March 3, 2025.

As Education Secretary, McMahon advocated for cutting bureaucracy but maintaining key federal funds for schools. She also emphasised the importance of teaching students how to disagree, following controversial events such as the killing of Charlie Kirk.

However, McMahon's tenure was not without controversy. A lawsuit filed against her alleges that she and other WWE leaders were aware of a longtime ringside announcer sexually abusing young boys and did not take action to stop it.

Despite these allegations, McMahon's business background was seen by some as a major asset in her role as Education Secretary. Others, however, questioned her lack of experience in education.

After her tenure as Education Secretary, McMahon founded and led America First Policies. The Linda McMahon family foundation has also donated to education causes.

Throughout her career, Linda McMahon has shown a remarkable ability to adapt and navigate diverse fields, from professional wrestling to politics and education. Her legacy continues to be a topic of discussion and debate.
