Educator Valentina Fedoroiva Faces Court After Exposing Abuse Allegations at Yakutsk School for the Deaf
Valentina Fedoroiva, an educator at a school for the deaf in Yakutsk, has found herself at the centre of a storm. She recorded a video appeal to high-ranking officials, alleging manipulation of deaf children and their parents. Now, she faces two criminal cases and a court hearing next week.
Fedoroiva's video appeal was directed at Vladimir Putin, Alexander Bastrykin, and Igor Krasnov. Despite her claims, no specific organizations supporting her have been identified. The prosecutor's office of Yakutsk has requested a month and 12 days of restraint for Fedoroiva.
The educator alleges that the school administration is covering up abuse by educators and persecuting her for speaking out. Four students have accused Fedoroiva of causing them moral and physical suffering, leading to two criminal cases against her. One case, opened in January 2023, accused her of false testimony and abusing children. The other case, opened later in the year, remains under investigation.
If the requested measure of restraint is imposed, Fedoroiva may be prohibited from communicating with school employees, students, and victims or witnesses in the case. Fedoroiva maintains her innocence, considering the case fabricated. Ironically, a previous criminal case regarding abuse at the school was closed due to the absence of a crime.
Valentina Fedoroiva's court hearing is scheduled for next week at the Supreme Court of Yakutia. The outcome of the case will likely have significant implications for the school, its administration, and the children involved.
