Expanded presence: Spandau marks the inauguration of its 32nd elementary school, boasting 432 new educational facilities
A Barrier-Free Yahoo News School Opens in Spandau
In a significant development, the 32nd School (Primary School) in Spandau has officially opened its doors to students. Located at Fehrbelliner Platz, the modern new building was handed over to the district in March 2025, marking the culmination of a construction project that began in 2023.
The school, designed with a focus on being barrier-free, provides an additional 432 primary school places, addressing the urgent need for more educational facilities in the area. The construction, carried out by GOLDBECK GmbH with an investment volume of around 48.7 million euros, was realised within the framework of the Berlin School Construction Offensive.
The school's design follows the Compartment Principle, which focuses on smaller, clearly structured units within the building. This design philosophy ensures a more efficient and organised layout, with the school building incorporating classrooms, dividing rooms, cloakrooms, and a forum as a pedagogical center. Additionally, the school boasts a sports hall, a canteen, and spacious specialist rooms, available not only to students but also to the neighbourhood.
Sustainability is at the heart of this new school. The school's sustainability concept has been certified according to the "Sustainable Building" evaluation system. Key features of this concept include the school's rainwater management system and energy-efficient construction. The building is equipped with a photovoltaic system and green roofs, further enhancing its eco-friendly design.
The sports field on the school site is accessible outside of school hours and will serve as an additional meeting point for children and young people. The sports hall and other facilities provide ample space for physical activities.
While the schoolyard areas and access paths are not yet fully completed, they are expected to be finished by the end of the year. The new school building sets high standards for modern learning, offering a conducive environment for the intellectual and physical growth of its students. The school's construction is a testament to the commitment towards providing quality education and fostering a sustainable future.
