The Jesus V. Del Rosario Foundation (JVRF) is spearheading a new 120-day nourishment program in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) in Sulu. The program, set to commence on Monday, August 11, is a collaborative effort with local education stakeholders and Jainab Abdulmajid, Local Champion for Sulu.

The initiative, themed "Unity in Action: Serving Communities, Nurturing the Future," is more than just a feeding effort; it is a symbol of hope, healing, and human dignity. According to JVRF Executive Director Kana Manglapus and Trustee Erwin Gonda, the foundation is committed to empowering youth through education and nourishment.

The program recognizes the importance of proper nourishment during the early stages of learning, as it is vital for long-term growth and academic success. The aim is to fight child hunger, strengthen nutrition, and boost school attendance.

In a statement, JVRF's President, Peña, expressed pride in standing alongside JVRF, DepEd-Sulu, and partners in this noble cause. He stated that nourishing the children of Sulu means nourishing the future of peace. The program is seen as a potential for lasting impact, according to Peña.

The agreement was signed on Friday, August 8, and will benefit 1,271 grade school students in the provinces of Indanan, Patikul, Omar, and Talipau. The program is a collaboration between the non-stock foundation and the Department of Education.

The program is being carried out in collaboration with the Armed Forces and local communities, reflecting a multi-sectoral approach common in similar programs in the Philippines. These programs aim to improve child nutrition and school attendance by providing daily or periodic nutritious meals to children over a set duration, such as 120 days. They often involve partnerships between local government units, the Department of Education, non-governmental organizations, and sometimes international aid groups. Goals usually focus on addressing malnutrition, improving cognitive development, and reducing school dropout rates. Impact assessments typically look at health improvements, educational attendance, and community engagement.

For updated and detailed information, contacting local government units in Sulu, the Department of Education regional office, or NGOs active in the area such as Tzu Chi Philippines (noted for humanitarian efforts) might be necessary.
