The Department of Fisheries in India has made significant strides in the digital capacity-building initiative, with over 85% onboarding of its staff on the iGOT Karmayogi platform[1]. This progress was confirmed during a review meeting chaired by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh at Krishi Bhawan on August 1, 2025[2][3].
The iGOT Karmayogi platform, part of Mission Karmayogi, aims to transform capacity building among government personnel[4]. As of now, the platform boasts a user base of more than 1.26 crore registered users nationally, including central and state government employees[4].
During the meeting, Minister Singh emphasized the importance of improving the mobile app's usability on the iGOT Karmayogi platform[5]. He also noted the feedback received during the session and assured that key suggestions would be shared with the Prime Minister[6].
Looking ahead, the Department of Fisheries plans to deploy more advanced modules and integrate hybrid learning approaches to further enhance capacity building[2][3]. This approach will combine online self-paced learning with in-person or synchronous sessions to maximize training effectiveness in the fisheries sector.
Secretary Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi highlighted the long-term impact of structured digital training on the iGOT Karmayogi platform[7], while Ajay Srivastava, Economic Adviser at the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, presented insights into user engagement, platform feedback, and analytics during the meeting[8].
Minister Singh also instructed officials to send a detailed note on the meeting's outcomes to the Cabinet Secretariat, Capacity Building Commission, and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)[9]. The meeting concluded with a commitment to creating a future-ready, citizen-centric fisheries administration through the iGOT Karmayogi platform[2].
Moreover, the Union Minister called for monthly departmental knowledge-sharing sessions to be institutionalized[6]. These sessions will provide an opportunity for continuous improvement and collaboration within the Department of Fisheries.
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State George Kurian, and other senior officials were present during the session[6].
