G+D Joins Parley for the Oceans to Fight Plastic Pollution with Eco-Friendly Payment Cards

G+D's new Convego Parley Ocean cards are made from recycled ocean plastic. For every loan settled with WLTH, up to 50 sqm of Australian coastline is cleaned up. Together, they're tackling plastic pollution and meeting consumers' demand for sustainability.

G+D Joins Parley for the Oceans to Fight Plastic Pollution with Eco-Friendly Payment Cards

Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), a leading payment technology provider, has joined forces with Parley for the Oceans to tackle plastic pollution. The collaboration aims to reduce virgin plastic use and repurpose waste plastic in payment card production, a move welcomed by eco-conscious consumers, particularly Generation Z.

G+D's Convego Parley Ocean cards are crafted from recycled ocean plastic, including granules, bales, and flakes collected from coastal areas under threat. Parley for the Oceans ensures the authenticity of these eco-friendly initiatives through an auditable supply chain and physical ID tracers in the recycled plastic.

The lendtech WLTH is also contributing to the cause. For every loan settled, WLTH cleans up to 50 square metres of Australian coastline in partnership with Parley for the Oceans. This aligns with consumers' expectations for sustainability and their cynicism towards greenwashing.

G+D aims to replace all virgin plastic in its payment card products by 2030, supporting consumers and banks in their sustainability aspirations. The WLTH card, a customised, eco-friendly product made in partnership with Parley for the Oceans and WLTH, serves as an example of this commitment.

Other companies, like Adidas Originals and Micro, are also supporting Parley's ocean protection efforts. Collaboration across sectors is crucial for driving engagement and solving environmental issues.

G+D's partnership with Parley for the Oceans demonstrates a significant step towards a sustainable future for payments. By setting bold sustainability goals, prioritising transparency, and making eco-friendliness a core business value, financial institutions can lead with action, not just intention, to protect our oceans and satisfy consumers' growing demand for sustainability.
