Gathering at Lernort Town Hall for Children's Meeting

The City of Augsburg is set to launch an engaging new educational initiative for children in grades 3 and 4, as well as those attending daycare centres and after-school care facilities. The "Children's Workshop Learning Place Town Hall" is a programme offered by the Education and Migration Department, taking place at the city library (S-Forum) from October 2024 until approximately December 2026.

In this participatory event, organised by the Office for Social Integration/LAB IN Participation within the Education and Migration Department, children are invited to imagine what it would be like if they were mayor. The workshop aims to understand what topics are important to children in the city, encouraging them to share their thoughts about life and coexistence in Augsburg.

The workshop begins with an interactive introduction and a get-to-know-you round, followed by a series of creative, educational, and social activities. These activities are tailored to the children's age group and may include arts and crafts, basic STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) projects, storytime, interactive games, and other age-appropriate learning and play designed to foster social and cognitive development.

One of the highlights of the workshop is the "Children's City Council Meeting" in the large meeting hall, where students can learn about the functioning of a city, the role of the town hall, the city council, and democratic values. This immersive experience allows children to play their own "city council meeting," gaining a unique insight into the workings of their city.

Due to the closure of the town hall, the workshop will take place at the city library (S-Forum). Teachers in grades 3 and 4 of municipal primary schools, as well as Kitas and after-school care facilities, can register for free with Dr. Roberta Moncalero in the office for social integration.

Occasionally, Mayor Martina Wild joins the conversation with the children, adding a touch of real-world relevance to the proceedings. To secure a spot for your school or institution, simply send an email to [email protected].

This exciting new initiative promises to be an enriching and enjoyable experience for all participating children, fostering a deeper understanding of their city and its administration while promoting democratic values and creative thinking.

  1. The Children's Workshop Learning Place Town Hall, an initiative in Augsburg, extends beyond the scope of education and self-development, also covering the areas of home-and-garden and lifestyle, as it encourages children to envision changes in their city that may affect their daily lives at home and while gardening.
  2. In addition to the educational and cognitive benefits, the Children's Workshop Learning Place Town Hall, with its focus on learning, arts and crafts, and basic STEM projects, serves as an excellent opportunity for children to develop their creativity and, in turn, improve their lifestyle choices by thinking innovatively within these domains.
