Green Hydrogen Company NEOM and Energy & Water Academy join forces to prepare Saudi Arabia's upcoming green energy professionals.
The NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) and the Energy & Water Academy (EWA) in Saudi Arabia have partnered to launch a comprehensive green hydrogen training program. This initiative aims to equip the workforce with the necessary skills for the emerging green hydrogen and renewable energy sectors.
The program offers two training pathways: a 2-year Technician Training Programme in Renewable Energy Technology & Green Hydrogen for recent graduates with Diploma Certificates or a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, and a 1-year Engineers Training Programme for individuals holding a Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
This program is not only beneficial for the trainees but also for the industry. Graduates of the program are expected to be highly sought-after by industry leaders due to their comprehensive understanding of green hydrogen production.
The training program commenced in August at EWA in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia, and is supported by the Saudi Human Resources Development Fund. It reflects EWA's dedication to advancing education that meets and exceeds industry demands.
NGHC is set to become the world's largest green hydrogen producer by the end of 2026. The partnership between NGHC and EWA aims to train a new generation of skilled professionals in green hydrogen production, contributing to this goal.
The program is critical in developing local expertise to support Saudi Arabia’s ambitious green hydrogen production. It prepares Saudi talent to operate and maintain state-of-the-art green hydrogen projects, such as the massive plant led by NGHC, a key joint venture involving Saudi ACWA Power and U.S. Air Products.
The program aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by diversifying the economy beyond oil dependency, developing a local skilled workforce for advanced green technologies, reducing the national carbon footprint, and positioning Saudi Arabia as a global leader and major exporter of green hydrogen.
Furthermore, the program promotes inclusivity with around 27% female participation. Aspiring technicians and engineers are encouraged to explore the unique training opportunities provided by the program.
The partnership between NGHC and EWA serves as a model for industry-academic collaboration in tackling climate change and building a more sustainable future. NGHC's investment in training and upskilling its workforce aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goal of becoming a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable development.
In conclusion, the green hydrogen training program offered by NGHC and EWA is an integral part of the Kingdom’s long-term energy and economic transformation agenda under Vision 2030. This program not only supports Saudi Arabia's goal of becoming a leading producer of clean hydrogen by 2030 but also contributes to global decarbonization efforts.
