Heidekreis District's New School Pick-up Rules Improve Safety, Bus Drivers Welcome Changes
The Heidekreis district has implemented new regulations for school pick-up and drop-off zones, aiming to enhance safety and traffic flow. The rules, enforced since 2021, have sparked mixed reactions from parents, while bus drivers welcome the changes. The Grund- und Oberschule Bispingen (GOBS) has been at the centre of these developments.
GOBS principal Iris Wagner first raised concerns about the traffic situation in February 2021, prompting the district administration to establish clear guidelines. The new rules dictate the setup of unloading points and pick-up zones around schools, but some parents felt their personal freedom was infringed upon by the direct approach.
Bus drivers Andreas Konopka and Jens Lampe, however, agree that the focus should be on children's behaviour while waiting. They believe that the regulations have improved safety and order, making it easier for them to do their job. Despite the changes, parents are advised to use the opposite Penny parking lot, even though it is private property.
The traffic situation at GOBS has indeed shown signs of improvement, with a recent visit by the BZ revealing no major disruptions. However, there have been instances of parents ignoring traffic signs and causing hazards, such as parking on the bus lane or blocking lanes, especially during peak times. This has made it difficult for others to pass and has challenged public space, changing past practices.

The Grund- und Oberschule Bispingen has seen improvements in traffic order, but parents must continue to adhere to the rules to ensure the safety of all.
