Queens & Heroes Summer Festival Celebrates Diversity in Oberbilk

In the heart of Oberbilk, Germany, the Cultural and Neighborhood Association "Queens & Heroes" hosted its eighth annual summer festival on Lessing Square. The event, which took place under the perfect summer weather, was a celebration of diversity, equality, and community spirit.

The association, named to signify that everyone, regardless of religion, origin, or skin color, is equal, offered activities for people of all ages. Not only children but also their parents found opportunities for engagement, with programs specifically designed for families and seniors.

The summer festival was more than just a gathering; it was a showcase of the association's commitment to fostering creativity in various areas, including cultural, educational, language promotion, integration, and intergenerational projects.

Andrea Abbing, the first chairwoman of Queens & Heroes, was present at the festival, emphasizing the importance of providing opportunities for foreign mothers to improve their German language skills. The alliance for affordable housing, another participating organisation, aimed to help tenants facing issues with profit-driven real estate developers.

The sports action bus of the city sports association provided a climbing tower for children, while the sports school Alex from Huettenstrasse cooperated with Queens and Heroes, offering free training in their rooms on Linienstrasse.

The festival was not lacking in entertainment. "Brittmix" provided melodic-rhythmic sounds, attracting visitors with their music. Games and craft activities kept the children entertained, and the smell of waffles added to the festive atmosphere, enticing visitors who hadn't heard about the festival yet.

Numerous volunteers ensured that everyone could enjoy the festival. Last year's highlight, a youth trip to Berlin, will be repeated in August. The Oberbilker Tageblatt, the neighbourhood newspaper, was also present, debuting at the festival and featuring stories and projects undertaken by Queens and Heroes members over the years.

Many visitors from society and politics attended the festival, demonstrating the widespread support and appreciation for the association's work in promoting diversity, integration, and community spirit in Oberbilk. The Queens & Heroes Summer Festival was yet another successful event in the association's mission to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

The Queens & Heroes association, beyond offering cultural celebrations, also provides diverse recreational activities, such as home-and-garden workshops and education-and-self-development programs for attendees. Consequently, the festival transforms into a broader lifestyle experience, catering to an array of interests and fostering an inclusive, multifaceted community atmosphere.
