Collaborative Digital Skills Training for Librarians in Zambia
In a bid to advance digital transformation and improve public service delivery in Zambia, the SMART Zambia Institute (SZI), the Library and Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ), and Astria Learning Zambia have joined forces to equip librarians with practical knowledge to navigate and benefit from Zambia's digital public infrastructure [1].
The specialized digital skills training program, scheduled before the LIAZ Annual General Meeting from July 23rd to 25th at Avani Resort in Livingstone, focuses on three crucial areas: digital literacy and skills enhancement, information management and access, and community engagement using digital tools [1].
The aim is to empower librarians to be key agents in spreading digital knowledge and facilitating access to information in communities across Zambia. Mr. Brian Nawa Nawa, Head of Digital Skills and Capabilities at Smart Zambia, emphasizes the importance of librarians in spreading awareness and facilitating access to digital government services.
The training session, which took place at David Livingstone College of Education (DALICE), is part of a broader initiative that also includes the SMART Office with eRegistry System, the Zamportal Platform (Government Service Bus), and the SMART Zambia Institute's ongoing efforts to build a digitally literate citizenry [1].
