Insufficient training ground impedes revival of military academy in Krasnoyarsk.

Setting up a military academy in Krasnoyarsk faces a major obstacle—the absence of a military polygon, Krasnoyarsk's mayor, Vladislav Loginov, revealed during a city council session. While the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation holds the power to decide on such academic institutions, the question of whether a military academy could emerge in the city was raised by the deputies following Loginov's report.
Previously, Krasnoyarsk was home to KVKURPE PVO—the Krasnoyarsk Higher Command Academy of Radio Electronics, which was established in 1949 and disbanded towards the end of the 1990s.
Loginov, a graduate of the Aчинsk Military Aviation Technical College, expressed his support for the revival of a military educational institution in Krasnoyarsk. "Having a military academy in this city significantly boosts its status, and we will make every effort to bring this vision to life," he stated.
However, the city's involvement in this regard is limited; the Ministry of Defense handles the matter, with numerous other cities competing, including several in Siberia.
Krasnoyarsk does have suitable land for the academy, which is under the control of the military, but the surrounding area lacks a necessary military polygon.
"The polygon must not be situated in the city or a town; specific requirements regarding distance from inhabited areas and the main base apply," Loginov pointed out. "Once all conditions align, I am confident the Ministry of Defense will make the right decision."
Various cities in Russia, such as Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, and Vladivostok, among others, are considered stronger contenders for hosting a military academy due to factors like accessibility, infrastructure, and strategic importance. These cities, like Krasnoyarsk, aspire to house such educational institutions, but they face different challenges regarding suitable land for military training exercises. Krasnoyarsk's situation might be difficult due to the limited availability of suitable land for military training purposes.
