Investigation into the teaching licenses of the principal at Sun Prairie West High School, led by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI)

In a series of developments at Sun Prairie West High School, the principal, Jennifer Ploeger, is currently under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) regarding her educator licenses. The DPI is examining all of Ploeger's administrative licenses, with the exception of an emergency teacher license.

The investigation has been prompted by allegations, but no information has been disclosed about Ploeger's current status within the Sun Prairie Area School District. The DPI, due to Wisconsin state statutes, cannot comment further on the investigation and has requested that all information remains confidential.

Meanwhile, Ed Ford, the associate principal, has been serving as the acting principal. However, he will return to his role and step in as needed when Ploeger is not present in the building. Until Ploeger's absence was announced, Ford had been serving as the acting principal.

The school district has not disclosed the identity of Ploeger's replacement as the current deputy principal at Sun Prairie West High School.

In a separate incident, Robert Gilkey-Meisegeier, the former dean of students at Sun Prairie West High School, has been accused of possession of child pornography and child exploitation. These charges have also led to federal indictments. Police have reported that students at Sun Prairie West were among the victims. The police investigation regarding Gilkey-Meisegeier is ongoing.

In response to our queries, the Sun Prairie Area School District directed us to their website for updates on the investigations. No further comment was provided by the DPI due to the same confidentiality requirements.

DPI records show that Jennifer Ploeger has several teaching and administrator licenses over the years. Her administrative license is set to expire on June 30, 2028.

In a positive development, Peg Shoemaker, the former principal of Middleton High School, has been announced as the acting principal of West High School during Ploeger's continued absence. Additionally, an employment investigation is being conducted to determine whether any district employees failed to perform their employment duties.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
