Johann-Peter-Hebel-Grundschule Launches Junior Helper First Aid Project
Johann-Peter-Hebel-Grundschule in Wagenstadt is introducing a new project to train third-grade students as junior helpers, equipped with a first watch backpack from February 2026. The initiative aims to empower children to assist in minor injury situations and foster mutual respect.
The project was initiated by the new principal, Melanie Müller, who will also serve as the trainer. Ten third-grade students will participate in the training starting in October. The training will cover essential skills such as dressing wounds, making emergency calls, and providing help in everyday situations.
The DRK district association Emmendingen presented the school with a first watch backpack for the project. The Barmer health insurance company also contributed by donating the backpack. Regional manager Philipp Knappe praised the school's commitment to the project. Franzi Stövhase from the DRK district association Emmendingen emphasized the importance of first watch skills for mutual respect and saving lives.
From February 2026, these junior helpers will be active in the school routine, ready to assist with minor injuries. The project, supported by the DRK and Barmer health insurance, aims to create a safer and more responsible school environment.
