Kazakhstan Celebrates 175th Birthday of National Poet Jambyl Jabayev

Today, February 28th, Kazakhstan celebrates the 175th anniversary of the birth of its national poet, Jambyl Jabayev. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has established a state commission to organize the celebrations, with over 500 projects planned across the country. Jambyl Jabayev, born in 1846, was a renowned akyn, or poet, who won multiple aitys competitions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He learned the art of improvisation from the akyn Sуюnбай at the age of 12 and dedicated his life to promoting patriotism, nobility, loyalty, and justice through his work. After the October Revolution, Jabayev's poetry reflected themes of loyalty to the Motherland and honesty. His work is now part of the 'golden fund' of world culture and continues to inspire Kazakhs today. The poet's son, Alghazy Jambylov, died while fighting in the Great Patriotic War in 1943. To mark the 175th anniversary, a state commission led by Nurlan Nigmatulin has been established. The first meeting was held on February 27th, officially kicking off the celebrations. Jambyl Jabayev's legacy continues to be celebrated and honored in Kazakhstan. The 175th anniversary of his birth serves as a reminder of his significant contribution to Kazakh culture and values. The extensive celebrations planned across the country are a testament to his enduring impact.
