Kazakhstani students emerge victorious in the International Olympiad held in Azerbaijan

The International Economics Olympiad, a highly regarded intellectual competition for students passionate about economics, finance, and business, was held in Baku from July 20 to 29. This information was shared by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Kazakh Students Shine at the International Economics Olympiad 2022

This year's International Economics Olympiad (IEO) saw the participation of high school students from around 35 countries, with approximately 280 participants from 55 countries taking part. The IEO, a global intellectual competition for young minds interested in economics, finance, and entrepreneurship, took place from July 20 to 29 in Baku.

The Kazakh team, led by Ruslan Muldashev, Financial Director of LLP Paradigm Shift, and Aigul Karakulova, Deputy Director of the Republican Scientific Practical Center "Daryn", secured podium places in the team stage of business cases. Adilet Abzaliyev, an 11th grader at NIS Astana, won a silver medal, while Batyrkhan Mukhtarhan, a 10th grader at the same school, clinched the top spot with a gold medal. Nurkhan Tuleyev, another 11th grader at NIS Astana, also won a silver medal.

Tomiris Ospan, an 11th grader at Shokan Ualikhanov School in Almaty, won a bronze medal. Additionally, Daniyal Arystan, an 11th grader at NIS Astana, received a diploma for his participation in the IEO.

The IEO is designed to promote economic and financial literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and provide professional guidance to youth in line with the demands of the modern global economy. Participants engage in complex analytical tasks, business games, and showcase their knowledge in financial planning and economic modeling.

The competition encourages analytical thinking, policy analysis, and evidence-based reasoning, thereby contributing meaningfully to the development of economic and financial literacy among participants. The skills and personalized feedback gained from expert judges help prepare young students for future internships and careers in finance.

Kazakhstan has been participating in the IEO since 2018 and has won a total of 22 medals (2 gold, 5 silver, and 17 bronze). Batyrkhan Mukhtarhan, Adilet Abzaliyev, Nurkhan Tuleyev, and Tomiris Ospan are previous medal winners from Kazakhstan in the IEO.

In conclusion, the Kazakh team's performance at the International Economics Olympiad 2022 was commendable, with several students securing podium finishes. The IEO continues to play a significant role in fostering economic and financial literacy among young students worldwide.
