Keuka College's 116th Commencement: A Day of Surprises, Reunions, and Honors

Keuka College's 116th commencement was filled with surprises and emotional moments. Over 350 graduates celebrated their achievements, but one reunion stole the show.

The day began with President Amy Storey's speech, during which she hinted at a secret. Little did the audience know, she was about to reunite a sister and brother. Elizabeth Stewart, a Master of Social Work graduate, was unaware that her younger brother, Airman First Class Thomas Smith, was in attendance.

After several speeches, including reflections from seniors Georgia Gallatin and Peyton Taylor, and addresses from Instructor of Criminology Michael Smith and President Storey, the stage was set for a surprise. Thomas Smith appeared, flowers in hand, reuniting with his sister in an emotional moment that brought the audience to their feet. The touching moment capped a day full of honors, including the awarding of a Doctor of Humane Letters degree to Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Crystal Gips, Class of '65, and recognitions for faculty members like Professor of the Year Dr. Klaudia Lorinczova and Adjunct Instructor of the Year Mike Furlough.

The 116th commencement of Keuka College was more than just a graduation ceremony. It was a day of surprises, emotional reunions, and well-deserved recognitions. The graduates, along with their families and the Keuka College community, will remember this day for years to come.
