La Criación de TigerResearch: Una Entrevista con Vivek Kolli del año 24

TigerResearch, a comprehensive platform designed to streamline access to research opportunities and resources at Princeton University, was launched in September 2021. The platform has been developed to address the challenges faced by students in discovering and navigating the wide range of research programs, projects, and labs available at the university.

In the past, information about research opportunities was scattered across multiple departments and websites, making it difficult for students, particularly undergraduates, to find relevant projects that align with their interests and academic goals. TigerResearch aims to rectify this issue by providing a unified, user-friendly interface that aggregates research listings, filters by discipline or research area, and offers detailed descriptions and contact information.

The platform was developed by a team of Princeton students, including Vivek Kolli '24, Eric Ahn '24, and Alex Zhang '24, during July and August of 2021. The project was overseen by advisers Professor John Danner and Dr. Jérémie Lumbroso from the Computer Science department.

The idea for TigerResearch was conceived by Vivek Kolli '24 during his freshman spring semester in a Freshman Seminar (FRS 157: Failure) taught by Professor John Danner. The platform's development underwent multiple iterations after consulting with professors and advisers to ensure it met the needs of the Princeton community.

Vivek Kolli '24, who is also the Vice Chair of the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy and Director of Marketing and Outreach for Scholars of Finance, offers some advice for students interested in getting involved with research at Princeton. He suggests that students should study up on the research a professor does and the requirements they have, and ensure they have taken the necessary prerequisite courses before reaching out to them. Additionally, he advises students to demonstrate why a particular professor is their best option as an adviser.

By centralising these resources, TigerResearch helps promote student engagement in research, facilitates connections between students and faculty, and enhances the overall academic research experience at Princeton. The platform's development reflects a desire to empower students with easier access to research opportunities, thereby encouraging a more active participation in Princeton's vibrant research community.

The junior student Vivek Kolli '24, who developed the idea for TigerResearch during his Freshman Seminar, recommends that students interested in research at Princeton should prepare thoroughly, researching a professor's work and prerequisite requirements, before reaching out to them. TigerResearch, launched in September 2021, is a platform designed to enhance education-and-self-development by offering a student-friendly interface for junior paper opportunities, streamlining access to research programs and projects at Princeton University.
