Large families' schoolchildren will receive free transportation privileges via new electronic cards.
In the city of Yakutsk, children from large families can now enjoy free travel on public automobile transport for urban and suburban communication starting from September 2024. This measure of support is part of the national project "Family," an initiative by President Vladimir Putin.
From September 1, 2025, the unified digital services "Yakutia Youth Card" and "Yakutia Resident Card" will be introduced, replacing the old school transport cards. The Yakutia Youth Card will be issued for schoolchildren from 7 to 13 years old, while the Yakutia Resident Card will be issued for schoolchildren from 14 years old. These cards will enable discounted travel.
To apply for the Yakutia Youth Card or the Yakutia Resident Card, you need to:
- Confirm your eligibility as a child from a large family residing in Yakutsk.
- Apply through local government social services, the municipal administration, or a dedicated department for social support/family affairs in Yakutsk.
- Prepare documents such as proof of family size, proof of residency in Yakutsk, and identification documents of parents/guardians and the child.
- Submit the application in person or possibly online through the regional government portal or multifunctional centers (MFC).
- After the application is reviewed and approved, the card is issued free of charge.
For the most accurate and updated details, you should consult the official website of the Government of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), the social protection department or family support office in Yakutsk, or municipal offices or MFCs in Yakutsk.
The free travel benefit is provided without any criteria of need and is valid from September 1 to May 31 annually. The "Yakutia Resident Card" will provide discounted travel for schoolchildren from 14 years old. All previously issued school cards will continue to work until the expiration date of the cards, namely, until the completion of studies in grades 4, 7, and 9.
Natalia Andreyeva, a resident of Yakutsk and a mother of many children, stated that this measure of support will help large families redirect funds previously spent on travel to textbooks and school supplies.
The national project "Family" continues to provide support to large families, including the implementation of the Yakutia Youth Card and the Yakutia Resident Card.
- Natalia Andreyeva, a resident of Yakutsk and a mother of many children, expressed that the implementation of the 'Yakutia Resident Card' will allow schoolchildren from 14 years old to enjoy discounted travel, which may help large families allocate funds saved on transport towards education-and-self-development expenses such as textbooks and school supplies.
- As part of the national project "Family," the introduction of the 'Yakutia Youth Card' and the 'Yakutia Resident Card' will not only provide free or discounted travel for schoolchildren but also offer an opportunity to enhance their lifestyle by potentially channeling saved funds towards education-and-self-development resources.
