Lecture Series for Young Adventurers Commences: The 'Knowledge Journey' Resumes at the Oversee Museum in Bremen on September 21st
New Exhibition and Lecture Series at the Overseas Museum Bremen
The Overseas Museum Bremen is set to unveil a new cabinet exhibition dedicated to the Tlingit indigenous population group in Southeast Alaska. The exhibition, which opens on September 21, 2024, promises to offer an immersive exploration of Tlingit mythology, with a focus on the raven as a central figure and mythical symbol.
Alongside the exhibition, the museum has announced a series of lectures and workshops, known as the "Knowledge Journey." This series, suitable for children aged six and above, kicks off on the same day as the exhibition, with Dr. Christine Wesche from the Alfred-Wegener-Institute leading a lecture about life in Antarctica.
The "Knowledge Journey" continues on the third Saturday of every month, from 3 to 4 pm. On October 19, 2024, Dr. Diana Michler-Kozma will discuss large whale species and their nurseries. In January 2025, Dr. Volker Lohrmann will delve into the fascinating world of fossilized wasps in amber and their significance in paleontology.
The series also includes a workshop on manga drawing for children, led by Kati Eitzen, scheduled for March 15, 2025. Details about the "Knowledge Journey" workshop on manga drawing for children are yet to be announced.
On February 15, 2025, the lecture series takes a turn towards science as Dr. Jan-Christoph Greim investigates a mysterious overseas box received by the Overseas Museum Bremen.
Each lecture in the series covers various themes and cultures in an engaging, child-friendly manner. The "Knowledge Journey" on January 18, 2025, titled "Chili, Cinnamon, and Pepper - On the Trail of Spices," explores the history, origin, and significance of spices, with a focus on India.
Admission for non-members of the Maki Children's Club is 3 euros for children and 3.50 euros for adults. The museum encourages visitors to consider joining the Maki Children's Club for exclusive benefits and discounts.
