International Talk Like a Pirate Day
On September 19, the University community will join pirate enthusiasts worldwide in celebrating International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrr matey, it's sure to be a swashbuckling good time!
Elections to Park University's Board of Trustees
Jeanette Prenger was elected as the Chair of Park University's Board of Trustees for the 2019-20 year. Jackie Snyder, Troy Teague, and Lynn Craghead were also elected as Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, respectively.
Community Conversations and Guest Lectures
Steve Youngblood, associate professor of communication arts and director of the Center for Global Peace Journalism, facilitated a community conversation on "Media and Horrifying Images: Necessary Evil or Unnecessarily Sensational?" on July 25. On July 19, Lynn Bondurant, a retired NASA educational programs officer, discussed the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission on KCUR-FM's "Up To Date" program.
Academic Achievements and Recognitions
In the July issue of Ingram's, Kansas City's business magazine, Park University ranked No. 14 on its list of private colleges/universities in Missouri and Kansas, based on graduate enrollment in Fall 2018. Park University's online Bachelor of Science degree in information and computer science/software development was ranked No. 10 on The BestSchools.org's "Best Online Bachelor's in Software Engineering Degree Programs" list.
Art Exhibits and Performances
An art exhibit featuring the works of mixed media artist Laurel DeFreece will be on display at the Campanella Gallery from August 5 to September 27. On September 20, the International Center for Music will present an intimate evening concert with Stanislav and Friends.
Commencement Ceremonies
September will see several commencement ceremonies at Park University's campuses, including Camp Pendleton (Calif.) Campus, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (Ariz.) Campus, Lackland Air Force Base (Texas) Campus / Randolph Air Force Base (Texas) Campus, Minot (N.D.) Air Force Base, and Fort Irwin (Calif.) Campus.
Special Events
The University will host the Dr. Jerzy Hauptmann Distinguished Guest Lecture featuring Stephen Walt on September 12. On September 21, the Park House Celebration will take place.
Sports and Athletics
Tyler Price, assistant director of athletics for media relations and marketing, was elected to a two-year term to serve on the NAIA Sports Information Directors of America executive board.
Military Programs
Park University's Military Credit Fast App and Valor Medals Review are part of the University's military programs. More information about these initiatives can be found on the University's official communications or the Governor's office announcements.
