Artist Luana Powell Moves to Buffalo, Wyoming After Retirement
Luana Grace Powell, a renowned artist known for her creative works that earned her numerous ribbons at county fairs, has recently moved to Buffalo, Wyoming following her retirement.
Born on August 19, 1961, in Bisbee, Arizona, Powell grew up and completed her schooling in Tucson, Arizona, graduating from Palo Verde High School in 1979 [1][2]. After her high school graduation, Powell attended the University of Arizona and graduated in 1985 with a degree in Home Economics.
Powell's life took an interesting turn when she joined the Peace Corps and spent three years in the Philippines. During her time there, she worked tirelessly to train teachers to work with hearing-impaired and special needs children. In addition, she served as Project Manager for the construction of a school [3].
Following her Peace Corps service, Powell furthered her education at Lewis and Clark University, earning her PhD in Master of Education in 1991.
In her personal life, Powell is survived by three sisters: Laura Buck (Harold), Robin Burkhart, and Valerie Ferguson (Gregg), all of Tucson, Arizona. She also leaves behind one brother, David Powell (Kyle), of Portal, Arizona. Powell has several nieces and nephews, including Jessica Ford (Mike), Gina Burkhart, Renee Penton (Kevin), Kaitlyn Mazoyer (Matt), Taylor Burgin (Parker), and Justin Davis (Vanessa), all of various locations [2].
Powell was preceded in death by her mother, her father and stepmother, and one brother, William G. Powell Jr. She leaves behind a special friend, Marti Warren, in Buffalo [4].
Powell's art and contributions to education will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the works she created.
