Luenen Implements 'School Street' Initiative for Safer Primary School Routes
Authorities have implemented a 'school street' initiative in Luenen, aiming to enhance safety for primary school students. The project, part of European Mobility Week, involves a temporary driving ban during peak hours. A joint press conference was held on September 18 to discuss this new measure.
The 'temporary school street' at the Elisabethschule in Luenen-Brambauer prohibits motorized vehicles between 07:15-08:15 and 15:00-16:00 on school days. This aims to eliminate traffic, parked vehicles, and dangerous maneuvers, improving visibility and safety for young students. Exceptions include emergency vehicles and local residents.
Jolanta Bialas, head of the Traffic Department, encourages parents to use alternative transportation methods or designated pick-up points. She hopes this will foster traffic competence and create a safer environment. Police officers have been carrying out checks and engaging with parents to raise awareness about the dangers of 'parent taxis' and promote safer alternatives.
The project is part of a wider focus on school mobility management during European Mobility Week. Authorities plan regular, unannounced checks to ensure compliance with the new rules.
The Luenen school street initiative is a proactive step towards safer school routes. By reducing traffic and promoting alternative transportation methods, authorities aim to create a safer environment for primary school students. Regular checks will ensure the success of this project.
