Majority of Kazakhstan's first-graders opt for studying in the nation's official tongue
The 2025-2026 academic year marks a significant change for first-graders in Kazakhstan's public schools, as the enrollment process has been simplified. Parents can now submit their children's documents either in person at schools or electronically via the "Electronic Government" portal.
To enroll in the first grade, children should typically be around 6 or 7 years old by a cut-off date set by the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan. Parents must submit proof of the child's age, such as a birth certificate, and usually provide documents like proof of residence, medical and immunization certificates.
The "Card of Preventive Vaccinations" (form No. 065/у) and the Child's Health Passport (form No. 052-2/у) are necessary for enrollment. A digital photograph of the child, 3x4 cm in size, is also required.
The application intake for first-graders began on April 1, 2025, and the deadline for the capital city is August 31. Parents are encouraged to submit their applications in a timely manner, not to delay until the last day.
As of mid-2025, more than 216,000 applications have been submitted nationwide by future first-graders, with approximately 30,000 children planned to be enrolled in the first grade in the new academic year.
Schools are not allowed to demand additional documents beyond those specified by law. Over 70% of parents have chosen the state language of instruction for their children.
For the most accurate and updated information, parents are advised to consult Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Education website or their local school district closer to enrollment dates for official and updated procedures and requirements.
In the context of the 2025-2026 academic year in Kazakhstan, education-and-self-development and learning are integral parts for children starting their journey in first grade. Parents are required to submit their children's age-related documents, such as birth certificates, and necessary health-related documents, like the Child's Health Passport and the "Card of Preventive Vaccinations," during the application process.
