Mastering Advanced Techniques in Digital Narrative Creation
In a fascinating turn of events, Doug Gorham, a retired Navy broadcast journalist, has found a new passion in photography. After honing his skills at the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana, Gorham has taken his camera to the Vandenberg Space Force Base, where he has been capturing the spirit and energy of intramural sports games.
Gorham's journey into photography began when he pursued the Undergraduate Certificate in Digital Photography at Sessions. The Digital Photography Program instructor team, led by Felicia Kieselhorst, Taz Tally, and Melanie Fiander, played a significant role in his learning, guiding him through the latest technologies in post-production and helping him acquire skills for shooting quality photographs.
Gorham's work at the Vandenberg Space Force Base is a direct result of his studies at Sessions. He reached out to the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department and the head of the intramural sports program on base to gain access to the games he photographed. His efforts have been rewarded with a diverse portfolio that includes images from volleyball, soccer, basketball, and football games.
Gorham's photography work extends beyond just the games. He has captured the trophy presentation at the end of the competition and done some portrait shots of the top athletes at the Vandenberg Space Force Base. His photographs have been sent up the chain of command and to the players, who are military men and women stationed on base.
Gorham's favourite course in the program was Landscape Photography, taught by Taz Tally. His work from this course was featured in the Sessions Student Gallery. The success he found in this genre has given him the confidence to shoot a variety of genres.
Apart from his work at the Vandenberg Space Force Base, Gorham aims to regularly practice photography for both personal and professional goals. He plans to travel and take landscape photographs at various locations. One of his favourite stories he wrote was about the Imperial Beach Pier in San Diego, which he approached as a travel writer and took readers on a journey with his words.
Gorham's passion for photography and storytelling is evident in his work. After retiring from a Navy career as a broadcast journalist, he has found a new way to capture and share the stories of the men and women who serve our country. His work at the Vandenberg Space Force Base is a testament to his commitment to learning, developing, and excelling as a photographer.
Doug Gorham's journey into photography, sparked by his education-and-self-development in digital photography at Sessions, has not only transformed his lifestyle but also encompasses technology. As he delves into landscape photography for both personal and professional endeavors, he continues to explore new locations, reflecting his ambition to utilize technology to enhance his craft.
