Medical Emergency at Evergreen Park School Triggers Hold and Secure
A staff member at Evergreen Park School in northwest Moncton experienced a medical emergency this morning, leading to a Hold and Secure procedure at the school. The incident, which occurred around 9:10 a.m., involved a woman who opened a Diaper Genie box containing sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda. She was subsequently hospitalized.
Upon opening the package, the woman began to experience breathing difficulties, prompting the school to enact Hold and Secure procedures. This allowed first responders, including firefighters and paramedics, to safely assess the situation and ensure the safety of all students and staff. The woman was immediately sent to the hospital for further treatment.
Investigations are ongoing to confirm the presence of baking soda in the Diaper Genie box. Police are currently looking into the matter. Despite the incident, no other students or staff members were affected. The Hold and Secure procedure was lifted just before noon, allowing classes to resume as normal.
The incident at Evergreen Park School serves as a reminder of the importance of safety protocols in schools. While the cause of the staff member's medical emergency is still under investigation, the quick response by school officials and first responders ensured the safety of all students and staff. The school continues to cooperate with authorities to determine the exact cause of the incident.
