Medical facility achieves $1.3 million annual savings on energy expenses and enhances patient comfort levels.

In a significant move towards energy efficiency and sustainability, Cimetrics' Analytika Pro solution has been selected to optimize the building automation systems in five buildings at The Medical Center, totalling over 800,000 square feet.

The Medical Center, a large provider of trauma care and affiliated with a local university, offers a wide range of services including pediatrics, primary, and advanced medical care. With a campus spanning over 2.5 million square feet, the implementation of energy-saving measures is crucial to reduce operational costs and carbon footprint.

Cimetrics collaborated with building automation system providers, including MC, JCI, and Siemens, to connect to and collect sensor and actuator data from over 9,400 physical points. The monitored systems included 41 air handling units, 19 hot water pumps, 11 chillers, and various other equipment.

Over 1,000 Analytika software algorithms analysed the data to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, improve environmental conditions, and reduce operations and maintenance costs. As a result, the Net Present Value of the implemented energy savings was $1,221,237, and the simple payback for the energy savings was just 0.3 years.

The implementation of targeted energy conservation measures and technologies at The Medical Center resulted in an annual energy savings of $1.3 million. The solution uncovered potential equipment problems, quantified improved patient comfort, and provided opportunities for profitable retrofit projects.

The Medical Center has also committed to the Healthier Hospitals Leaner Energy Challenge, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020. With over 1 million outpatient visits per year, the energy savings achieved through Cimetrics' solution will contribute significantly to this goal.

Data was collected every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year, totaling more than 900,000 data samples per day. This continuous monitoring and analysis allowed for real-time adjustments and optimizations, ensuring the best possible energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality.

Cimetrics' engineers provided actionable recommendations to the client, both online and offline, and engaged with the client team on a regular basis to help answer questions, coordinate implementation, and provide regular feedback on progress. The collaboration between Cimetrics and The Medical Center is a shining example of how advanced analytics software platforms can contribute to sustainability in healthcare facilities.
