Military History Journey at Heritage Park spans from the Viking Era to the Second World War
At Heritage Park in Calgary, the Days of Yore exhibit offers a unique and immersive experience, transporting visitors through centuries of military history. This year, the event is set to take place on Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. [2]
This cultural celebration showcases various reenactment groups, including World War Two and World War One reenactors, Vikings, and the 18th century Fraser Highlanders youth squad. [6] Visitors can even interact with these groups, thanks to the participation of Mark Martel and his fellow reenactors, who are portraying historical figures and allowing visitors to experience historical weight. [4]
The exhibit provides a historical experience of war throughout different time periods, including the Viking Age, medieval times, and both World Wars. [1] For instance, spectators can witness sword fighting with Viking warriors, medieval jousting matches, and Civil War cannon blasts. [1][2][3]
Heritage Park, Canada's largest living history museum, is home to this exciting event. [7] The "Days of Yore" exhibit is included in the admission price for Heritage Park. [8] In addition to the military demonstrations, guests can enjoy other Heritage Park favourites like riding the steam train, cruising on the S.S. Moyie, and exploring Indigenous culture. [5]
The event features 22 different reenactment groups, as stated by Warren Cummins, special events coordinator at Heritage Park. [9] The Victorian Society of Alberta and the Royal Canadian Navy, with a display by the moyee, are also participating in the event. [10]
A highlight of the event is the Royal Canadian Air Force Association's arrangement for a fly-by at one o'clock in the park. [11] Another noteworthy performance is the Lord Strathcona horse, recently arrived from England, who will be performing a musical ride and tent picking at the event. [12]
Harry Roberts, a supporter of Heritage Park, attended the exhibit with his family, expressing his enjoyment in attending with his grandson. [13] Roberts believes that Heritage Park is a magnificent show and considers it a privilege to have them in the city. [14]
