Modi's 79th Independence Day Speech: A Roadmap for an Advanced India by 2047

On August 15, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered an epic 103-minute Independence Day address, outlining a comprehensive and bold vision for a self-reliant, innovative, and empowered India targeting the year 2047, the centenary of Indian independence.

The speech focused on three core pillars: self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat), technological innovation, and citizen empowerment, as the driving forces behind India's transformation into a $10 trillion economy and a global leader.

Self-Reliance and Economic Growth

PM Modi announced several initiatives to boost self-reliance and economic growth. By the end of 2025, India is set to launch its first Made-in-India semiconductor chip, marking a significant milestone in technological self-sufficiency. The Prime Minister also emphasised the need for a tenfold expansion of nuclear energy capacity, with private sector participation to boost innovation and increase clean energy output.

In addition, the second-generation GST reforms, aimed at simplifying tax compliance, reducing costs for MSMEs and citizens, and making essential goods cheaper, will be implemented by Diwali. The launch of the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, a ₹1 lakh crore employment scheme, will provide grants to employers to create youth employment, directly addressing job creation for the young population.

A high-powered task force has been set up to review and modernize outdated policies and regulations, particularly easing the burden on startups and small industries.

Innovation and Technological Leadership

PM Modi called on the youth to innovate indigenous jet engines, social media platforms, fertilisers, and other critical technologies to reduce dependence on imports. He also highlighted the importance of India becoming a global hub for advanced technologies like AI, cybersecurity, and deep-tech.

The Prime Minister emphasised the active pursuit of digital sovereignty and space missions to secure India's strategic autonomy and technological edge. Over 300 startups are now innovating in satellite technology, space exploration, and cutting-edge research. Preparations for India's own space station are underway, building on the success of the Gaganyaan mission.

Citizen Empowerment and National Security

Operation Sindoor, a successful security operation using solely Indian-developed weapons, demonstrated India's readiness to counter terrorism and nuclear blackmail threats. The development of Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a futuristic defence shield, will ensure rapid and precise national security responses by 2035.

PM Modi made it clear that India will no longer compromise on its national interests regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. He also addressed the importance of safeguarding India's demographic integrity and announced the High-Powered Demography Mission to ensure India's unity, integrity, and security.

Throughout the address, PM Modi consistently emphasized that India's path toward "Viksit Bharat 2047" depends on self-confidence, technological independence, and active citizen participation. The speech broke records in length and scope and projected an ambitious roadmap for India to define its own destiny on the global stage by 2047.
