Music Director Hahn Celebrates 605 Star-Studded Band

605 All Star Band Shines in the 2025 Rose Parade

The 605 All Star Band, a unique collaborative ensemble made up of students from eight high schools across three school districts and seven cities along the 605 freeway, made a significant appearance at the prestigious 2025 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade.

Comprising over 500 members, the band is a composite marching band that ranks among the largest in the Rose Parade's history and was the largest band to perform in this year's event. The band was spearheaded by Tom Philips, a music director from Mayfair High School, who retired after leading the band to its successful performance.

The 605 All Star Band was honored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn in a ceremony, who recognized the hard work and dedication of the students and band directors in making the Rose Parade performance a success. In appreciation for her support, the band presented Supervisor Hahn with a t-shirt, a framed photo of their performance, a pin, and a large banner.

In a separate event, Supervisor Hahn will raise a Pride Flag in Downey on Monday, January 22, 2024. This gesture follows the Downey City Council's previous decision to stop flying the Pride Flag on city property. The event will be held in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the City of Artesia.

On the same day, Janice Hahn, LA Metro leadership, and local leaders will unveil the new name for the light rail line from Downtown Los Angeles to Artesia. The new name was chosen through a previous competition. The light rail line, which will be built from Downtown Los Angeles through Southeast LA to Artesia, is expected to provide a much-needed transportation solution for the region.

In addition, Janice Hahn will hold a gun buyback event in Artesia on Saturday, August 19, 2023. The event will be a drive-thru event, aiming to remove unwanted firearms from the community and promote safety.

Each student was presented a personalized certificate honoring their participation in the Rose Parade as part of the 605 All Star Band. The eight band directors were also presented official Los Angeles County scrolls for their contribution to the band's success. The 605 All Star Band is the first composite band to perform in the Rose Parade, marking a notable achievement for the collaborative ensemble.

The city council of Downey might consider organizing a community news event to discuss the education-and-self-development opportunities following the 605 All Star Band's success in the 2025 Rose Parade. This could include talks about the importance of collaboration and dedication in education, as showcased by the band's performance.

In light of the 605 All Star Band's achievement, the local community news could also cover upcoming events and initiatives within the city, such as Supervisor Hahn's plan to raise a Pride Flag or her gun buyback event, which emphasize the importance of unity and safety in our community.
