Near completion of Carmelite Primary School's playground in Worms
Karmeliter Elementary School Courtyard Renovation Completes Major Upgrades
The Karmeliter Elementary School courtyard in Worms has almost completed its renovation, according to the city administration. The project, intended to improve play comfort for children and prioritize environmental protection, has introduced several new features.
The renovation has seen the addition of a soccer field with artificial turf, goals, and markings for the cycling club. Children can now enjoy a well-maintained space for sports, encouraging teamwork, exercise, and outdoor recreation.
To promote physical fitness, coordination, and imaginative play, climbing cubes and a balancing bridge have been installed. These structures offer dynamic and engaging play options, fostering active movement and exploration.
In the interest of environmental protection, sealed surfaces in the school courtyard have been reduced. Light-colored paving stones have replaced black asphalt, reducing heat susceptibility, and the reduction of sealed surfaces is intended to help cool the area.
To support sustainable transportation, bicycle racks have been added to the courtyard. This encourages eco-friendly habits among students and staff, making it easier for them to bike to school.
The play area in the renovated school courtyard has been adapted to the current number of children and enlarged. Picnic and seating benches have been installed, providing comfortable spots for rest, socialization, and outdoor eating, fostering community and relaxation.
Some remaining tasks, including the installation of sun sails and renovation of an existing playground, are still underway. The installation of sun sails is intended to provide shaded areas, protecting children from direct sunlight during outdoor activities, thereby increasing comfort and reducing heat exposure.
Timo Horst (SPD), the city's urban development commissioner, has visited the Karmeliter Elementary School and praised the renovation's enhancement of the quality of stay for students and attractiveness for other user groups. The city administration did not provide a specific timeline for the completion of the remaining tasks.
The Karmeliter Elementary School courtyard renovation project prioritized environmental protection by reducing sealed surfaces. This, along with the installation of sun sails, aims to create a more inviting, safe, and environmentally conscious courtyard that supports children's physical health, social development, and environmental awareness.
